Detailed itinerary below, or download a copy here

• Day 1 (Monday, June 5)
From our Heathrow Airport hotel meeting point, we are off to Devon. By 1 p.m we have arrived in pretty, historic Exeter. After a break we resume our journey, arriving around 4 p.m. in the delightful fishing village of Brixham. After checking into our seaview hotel, let's visit the full-scale replica of the Golden Hind, the galleon Sir Francis Drake sailed around the world in 1577-80. Late in the day, we'll find a traditional pub for a WELCOME DRINK, followed by DINNER. OVERNIGHT – BRIXHAM
• Day 2 (Tuesday, June 6)
Today, after an orientation to the historical lands of Devon and Cornwall and to our tour, we visit our first two grand country manors – Coleton Fishacre, a 1920s retreat with luxuriant gardens by the sea, and Greenway, the holiday retreat of writer Agatha Christie. It's a delightful house, frozen in the early 20th century. After our visit, we head back to Brixham, which is a delight to explore on foot. DINNER tonight at Rockfish Restaurant, overlooking Brixham harbor, which prides itself on fresh, sustainably sourced seafood. OVERNIGHT – BRIXHAM
• Day 3 (Wednesday, June 7)
Today we travel by steam train, ferry and boat. First up, a steam train ride from the resort of Paignton to Kingswear, rising in tiers above the River Dart. We take a ferry across the river to gorgeous Dartmouth, one of the gems of Devon. You'll delight in its twisting streets and crooked buildings. Then, following a one-hour river cruise, we return to Paignton and Brixham for free time. OVERNIGHT – BRIXHAM
• Day 4 (Thursday, June 8)
The legendary seafaring town of Plymouth is our first port of call today. Our visit gives us plenty of time to stroll the historic port area, long associated with Sir Francis Drake, and to tour the impressive National Marine Aquarium, one of the largest in England. In the afternoon, we visit Antony House, a superb, early 18th-century mansion. Near day's end we come to Fowey (say "Foy"), a delightful riverside village and our home for two nights. DINNER tonight. OVERNIGHT – FOWEY
• Day 5 (Friday, June 9)
The Eden Project is one of the most amazing horticultural achievements in the world – a former clay quarry transformed into a marvel of biodiversity. Two immense domes set on a dramatic, plunging 34-acre site allow the park to display plants from all corners of the globe in what is said to be the world's largest greenhouse. After our visit, it's on to charming Charlestown, at one time a busy port but today so quaint that it's used as film locations. Back in Fowey, enjoy free time, followed by DINNER. OVERNIGHT – FOWEY
• Day 6 (Saturday, June 10)
Our byways take us to the delightful fishing village of St. Mawes, then to the 13th century church of St. Just in Roseland, nestled on a wooded site, surrounded by a picturesque cemetery and overlooking the Carrick Roads waterway. Via the King Harry Ferry we next come to Trelissick Gardens, a lush, undulating park sloping down to the Fal River. In the afternoon we arrive at St. Ives, possibly the most picturesque Cornish town on the Atlantic, and settle into our castle hotel. OVERNIGHT – ST. IVES
• Day 7 (Sunday, June 11)
We enjoy a quiet day in St. Ives, making all visits on foot. First we tour the newly remodeled Tate Gallery St. Ives, featuring a changing exhibition of 20th century art from the Tate Gallery London. Then it's on to the Barbara Hepworth Museum, featuring sculpture from the seminal 20th century artist. Finally, take time to stroll through the lively harborside of St. Ives, poking into the boutiques, cafes and pubs of the resort. Have an ice cream while watching the tide fill and empty the harbor, but watch for dive-bombing seagulls – no, really! DINNER and OVERNIGHT – ST. IVES
• Day 8 ( Monday, June 12)
On a day trip out of St. Ives, we first visit the remarkable cathedral at Truro. This Gothic revival church impresses with its 13th century "Early English" style, its soaring vaulting and its tall arcades. Next up: the Lost Gardens of Heligan, 80 acres of vegetable garden, fruit orchards and, most remarkable of all, a woodsy ravine sheltering a profusion of exotic plants. Finally we visit one of Cornwall's most enchanting fishing villages, Mevagissey, whose maze of twisting streets and steps lead to whitewashed houses rising above a sheltered harbor. OVERNIGHT – ST. IVES
• Day 9 (Tuesday, June 13)
We depart St. Ives today for the charming English Channel village of Mousehole (say "mau-zull) for a stroll around its granite harbor and breakwater dating from 1393. After LUNCH at Ben's Cornish Kitchen, we cross a narrow channel to amazing St. Michael's Mount, a tiny, rocky island (at high tide, that is) crowned by a castle. St. Michael's Mount, a twin of Mont St. Michel in France, was for many years a pilgrimage site. Today, a visit to the castle allows us to admire displays of weaponry, period furniture and paintings. Later we arrive at our country hotel. OVERNIGHT – PORT QUIN
• Day 10 ( Wednesday, June 14)
A guided walking tour of the pretty fishing village of Port Isaac revolves around sights featured in the popular television series "Doc Martin," whose seven seasons have been filmed here. In the afternoon, we visit magnificent Lanhydrock, one of Cornwall's most absorbing country houses. This High Victorian home will amaze you – 50 rooms of mementoes of the time the owners, the Robartes family, lived in grand style. DINNER and OVERNIGHT – PORT QUIN
• Day 11 (Thursday, June 15)
We make the short drive to the seaside village of Tintagel to see its Old Post Office, a wobbly manor house dating from the 1300s. Then we enjoy a special LUNCH at the Eliot Arms, a creeper-clad inn with excellent food. In the afternoon we arrive in Wells, whose medieval ambiance and stunning cathedral will amaze you. OVERNIGHT – WELLS
• Day 12 (Friday, June 16)
In the morning we visit sights in Wells, including its lovely cathedral and 800-year-old Bishop's Palace. Moving on, we arrive at Longleat House, an enormous, high Elizabethan manor home dating from 1580. Finally, we come to Heathrow Airport and check into our comfortable hotel, convenient for early flights tomorrow. OVERNIGHT – HEATHROW AIRPORT
• Getaway day (Saturday, June 17)
It's time to say goodbye to England with a flight home from Heathrow Airport.

MEALS – Tour includes breakfast every day, as well as eight other meals (lunches and dinners), as indicated in BOLD CAPS on the itinerary.
